Now that autumn has arrived, you’re probably wondering how you can get your tractor ready for the harvest season and for colder weather. Maybe you’re going to use your tractor through the winter, or maybe you want to put it into storage for a few months. Either way, it’s a good time to take care of some basic maintenance needs to ensure that your tractor works well all year round.

1. Change Oil

First, you’ll want to make sure that your tractor has clean, fresh oil that’s good for use in cooler weather. Oils that are made to withstand colder temperatures are less likely to get thick and stiff. When you change your tractor’s oil, you should also change out the filter.

2. Inflate Tires

Cold temperatures can also cause the air pressure in your tires to fluctuate, which results in reduced traction and potential damage. Check the air pressure of each tire and air them up according to the manufacturer’s recommendations in your owner’s manual.

3. Store Securely

If you don’t intend to use your tractor for a period of time, it’s important to make sure that you’ve stored it securely. Keeping your tractor outside leaves it vulnerable to inclement weather damage and pest infestation, or even vandalism or theft. Storing your tractor in a secure barn or garage is a better option.
